It’s beginning to look a lot like…. Wait, Christmas is coming, but we can’t skip Friendsgiving! Who doesn’t love a chance to catch up with old friends, go into an appetizer coma (come on, none of us actually cook a turkey), and sample an array of boozy beverages? Here are some ideas on how to throw a budget friendly get together without breaking a sweat.
One of the easiest ways to make your house look festive is to light candles. We are particularly fond of our Illume Pumpkin Peppercorn candles. A few signature pumpkin scented candles along with some battery-lit candles from Target can make your guests feel welcome and cozy. By mixing the real deal with reusable fakes, you save money and make that homey feeling last throughout the seasons.
Ornaments can serve double duty by using them to decorate your house or table. Our Timber collection of textured woodland creatures is the perfect addition to your Friendsgiving The best part is they can go from table to tree with the change of seasons since they are festive and adorable, but they don’t scream “Christmas Crazy” too early. We styled them several ways:
- Using one as an accent on a coffee table with some candles
- Clustering them together under a small lit birch tree- also from Target… I’m sensing a theme
- Using them as table decorations that could double as a take-away gift for your guests.
Cups and Napkins
Whether you’re throwing an event worthy of Downton Abbey, or that of the Grizwalds, festive cups and napkins will always jazz things up. Plastic cups are a must because they allow your guests to personalize their beverage container while avoiding any party fouls of broken glass on your recently swiffered floors. Cocktail napkins also say, “this is a classy party, I didn’t use paper towels.” No promises that your guests will actually use them, but they will certainly appreciate the sentiment. We are all thankful for a full glass.
Spiked CiderOne of our Punch Fan Favs from Third Thursdays has been our spiked apple cider. Here’s what you need:
- Apple Cider
- Pumpkin Pie Spice
- Spiced Rum
- Heat cider on the stove top or in a crock pot
- Add a dash of pumpkin pie spice- a little goes a long way. This is strictly a personal preference measurement
- Add the spiced rum. This is also a personal preference measurement, but it is a party after all.
- Warm until hot and serve in your favorite cups. Repeat.

Using Cozy Cold Weather as Decorations
If you don’t have a stash of vases around for such occasions, you can always use your cold weather accessories to spruce up your décor. It is a great way to use a clear vase with fake flowers and hide the stems. We put two cable boot toppers around this tall vase to make it look extra cozy!
Oreo Turkeys as Place Holders
Blogger Our Best Bites used her Oreo turkeys as placeholders. We love this idea! A functional dessert!
